Bicycle tours
Transport in Mexico City / Attractions of Mexico City

Mexico City like other cities of the world is doing big efforts in order to promote the use of bicycles as a every day mean of transport due to the benefits it provide: its fast, clean, healthy and cheap.

Some of the applied projects of an ambitious plan of sustainable urban infrastructure are:

  • Allowance of bicycle entrance into the subway lines all day long on sundays and on the metrobus (BRT) every day from 5 to 7 at mornings and from 10 to 12 at the nights.

  • Instalation of bicycle rental centers in strategic hubs of the city where you can borrow a free bike only by leaving an identity card.

  • Bicycle parkings in the Historical Centre.

  • Close for car traffic on Reforma Avenue and some streets of the Historical Centre every sunday morning from 8 to 14 hrs, allowing a free use of the whole area for pedestrians, bycicle and skate users.

This activity has achieved a great success among the citizens, this "paseos" has became into one the favorite leisure activities of the city on weekends, an authentic urban party with music, and the practice of different activities from aerobics and yoga to tai chi.

The use of bicycle on Reforma Avenue and the Historical Centre on weekends is very pleasant, in less than an hour you can bike from Diana Fountain to the Zocalo discovering from a new point o view all the monuments and buildings of this monumental axis, built at the XIXth century by emperor Maximilian I and nowadays the culture and financial hearth  of Mexico City.

Due to the great success of the bicycle rental centers, if you are going to borrow one we recommend you to arrive early in the morning, about half an hour before the centers open (10 AM). Some hotels of the area also offer free bicycle rentals.

Other places of the city that have bicycle rental centers (cicloestaciones) are:

You can check the bicycle rental centers map that we have designed for you.

Coming soon more bicycle rental centers will be open in other zones of the city.
